Is Macrobid and Bactrim in the same family? Are Macrobid and Bactrim the Same Thing? Macrobid (nitrofurantoin monohydrate/macrocrystals) and Bactrim (sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim) are antibiotics used to treat urinary tract infections. Macrobid is also used to treat bladder infections.
